12th October - Filming Review

On this day we wanted to film as much of the Windsor shots as possible. This was done in two sections:

1) Filming in stag meadow:
What we wanted to capture: We needed the key scenes where Jodie's character walks through the field and off into the distance.
Problems with shoot: We shot the scene in the morning which was a really bad timing on our part. At this time in the morning it seemed the majority of dog walkers in Windsor were out and about. This became an issue when it came to trying to keep from getting dogs in the shot. We want to go for this sparse emptiness to fit in with our conventions.
How we solved the problems: We simply tried to keep anyone and everyone accept Jodie out of shot. This included experimenting with lots of different angles. We also filmed a lot more than we needed experimenting as we did so with different ways to capture the walk, which we could then scrutinise to make sure that there was no one in shot. We also considered that we could crop some of the shots to not include the dog walkers, if we found this necessary.
What we actually captured: We managed to get the walking away scene from several angles. Some of these shots were corrupted by the problems of getting dogs or dog walkers in shot. We also took the opportunity to film some extra shots where we got Jodie to sing along to the song in front of a fallen tree and a very beautiful full standing tree, we took these extra shots just to cover all bases and give us more options when editing.

2) Filming in Firs Avenue:
What we wanted to capture: We needed to film the whole scene of Jodie walking out the door of the house, along the road where she would throw the suitcase and get angry, before Jodie finally walked away.
Problems with shoot: We had an hour to shoot the whole scene which in hindsight wasn't long enough, but we had decided to film as much as we could then and continue the shoot later on that week, we were therefore worried about continuity. Another issue was that we were filming in a residential area, plus we were working for a portion of the filming in a road.
How we solved the problems: The first issue of the time and trying to keep continuity was quite easily solved in the sense that when we edit it together it is going to be disjointed. To keep up with continuity we will keep the costume the same and Jodie will be responsible for trying to keep the makeup consistent. As for filming in a residential area we filmed in the middle of the day so only one or two people walked past that day. When the people walked past we simply stopped and waited for them to move on before filming again, we made sure that when we did start filming that there was no one around. When it came to filming in the road we had the same approach in the sense that we kept a watch out and moved on the couple of occurrences when a car did drive round the road.
What we actually captured: We managed to capture all the shots of her actually leaving the house. We also captured the shots of her walking away from the house and we also got a couple of shots of the suitcase being thrown.
